  • Fluoride removal by calcite: evidence for fluorite ...

Dec 15, 2005  Fluoride contamination of groundwater, both anthropogenic and natural, is a major problem worldwide. In this study, fluoride removal by crushed limestone (99% pure calcite) was investigated by batch studies and surface-sensitive techniques from solutions with fluoride concentrations from 150 micromol/L (3 mg/L) to 110 mM (approximately 2100 mg/L).

  • Fluoride removal from groundwater by limestone

Apr 01, 2015  The present work reveals that addition of dilute phosphoric acid to the influent water before treatment with crushed limestone can efficiently remove fluoride from groundwater. Fluoride removal from initial 0.526 mM to final 0.50–52.6 μM along with near neutral pH of the treated water has been achieved with 10 mM initial phosphoric acid in 3 h.

  • Fluoride removal from water using crushed limestone

of the acid to water before treatment with crushed limestone lowers the F-concentration from its initial value of 10 mg/L to below 2 mg/L, which is much better compared to the fluoride removal by limestone filtration alone 14. The ability of the crushed limestone chips to remove F-increased with increasing the acid concentration.

DescriptionClassificationLimestone LandscapeUsesDegradation by OrganismsGallerySee AlsoLike most other sedimentary rocks, most limestone is composed of grains. Most grains in limestone are skeletal fragments of marine organisms such as coral or foraminifera. These organisms secrete shells made of aragonite or calcite, and leave these shells behind when they die. Other carbonate grains composing limestones are ooids, peloids, intraclasts, and extraclasts.
